Our Story
Once upon a time, in the heart of Brutus, a small town tucked away in the Michigan wilderness, there lived a family that started an upholstery business in the most unexpected way. It all began with a tree, a curious homeowner, and a little bit of sewing experience.
Wendy, a spunky young girl, was helping her dad cut down a tree when the owner of the house asked her if she knew anyone with sewing skills. After a moment of contemplation, Wendy realized she had some experience with a needle and thread. And just like that, Sheppard’s Upholstery was born.
Over the years, Wendy honed her craft under the tutelage of a second-generation upholsterer. And like any good parent, Wendy refused to let her children sit idle while she worked. Her little son, Shawn, would follow her every step of the way, tinkering with furniture, ripping seams, and learning the ropes of the trade.
When the business was passed down to Wendy, she and Shawn worked tirelessly to perfect their craft. And when Shawn married Miriam, she picked up the trade as well, becoming an integral part of the family business. As time passed, Shawn and Miriam moved to Traverse City, leaving Wendy to carry on the legacy in Brutus.
But Wendy was not alone for long. Her husband Scott joined the business, and together, they worked and danced their way through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. And so, Sheppard’s Upholstery became a family affair, with each generation passing down their skills and knowledge to the next.
Who knew that a simple tree-cutting session could lead to the creation of a thriving family business? But that’s the magic of life, and that’s the story of Sheppard’s Upholstery.
Scott & Wendy
Two best friends named Scott and Wendy. They are inseparable, like two peas in a pod, raising their two children and working side by side in their business. They love spending time together, whether it’s working on a project or just kicking back with a cold drink after a long day. And don’t even get them started on their love for camping! Nothing brings them more joy than setting up camp in the great outdoors and roasting marshmallows by the fire.
Despite their love for leisurely activities, Scott and Wendy take their business seriously. They pour their hearts and souls into every project they work on, always striving for perfection. And while they enjoy the occasional happy hour, they make sure to never let it interfere with their work.
Their teamwork is like no other. They complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses, always lifting each other up when needed. They know each other’s quirks and preferences like the back of their hands. In fact, they are such a great team that their clients often comment on how seamless their work is.
But it’s not just about their business. Scott and Wendy are family people through and through. Their love for their two children is unparalleled, and they always make sure to prioritize their family time. From family vacations to game nights at home, they cherish every moment spent together.
Scott and Wendy are more than just business partners or friends. They are a team like no other, with a bond that can withstand anything life throws their way. And as they continue to work, play, and live their lives, they know that they are in it together, through thick and thin.
Shawn & Miriam
Shawn and Miriam are the epitome of love and happiness. They met and six months after they were married, inseparable and absolutely smitten with each other. Their little pup Dash only adds to the joy that radiates from this couple.
From the moment they wake up, to the moment they go to bed, they spend every moment together. Seriously, they don’t even go to the grocery store without each other. They are each other’s world and their love is truly infectious.
Their mornings start with a warm cup of coffee and a kiss. They then set out on a long walk with Dash by their side, exploring the beauty of nature around them. When they’re not walking, they love going on mountain bike rides together, the wind in their hair and the sun on their faces.
When it comes to work, Shawn is a perfectionist. He strives for excellence in everything he does and refuses to settle for anything less. Miriam, on the other hand, is the brains of the operation. She’s the one who keeps everything organized and running smoothly.
Together, they are a dynamic duo. They work hard and play hard, but they never forget the importance of spending quality time with each other. Their love is evident in everything they do and they are truly each other’s soulmates.
As they continue on this journey called life, they know that they will face challenges and obstacles, but they also know that they can overcome anything as long as they are together. Shawn and Miriam are filled with love and smiles, and their infectious positivity is contagious to anyone they meet.
